“I want to see Vecna’s heart on a platter,” says Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) as the Hawkins gang – Dustin, Will (Noah Schnapp), Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) gathers for one more time to take down the self-appointed lord of the Upside Down in the fifth and final season of Netflix's Stranger Things.
They aren’t the only ones fighting Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), however. The psychically powered Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who appears to be able to almost fly now, and her adoptive father, Hopper (David Harbour) are also headed to war, while Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Robin (Maya Hawke) and Will’s big brother, Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), are also back for the final fight. Not seen in the trailer are Will and Jonathan’s mom, Joyce, (Winona Ryder), and Max (Sadie Sink), who was left in a coma at the end of season four.
While this will be the official end of the Netflix live-action series that made almost all of its young cast into stars, brothers Matt and Ross Duffer – the show’s creators and executive producers – are planning to return with an animated spin-off series, Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85, coming out next year. The Duffer brothers are leaving Netflix for a deal at Paramount in April.
Volume one premieres with four episodes on Wednesday, November 26, just in time for a binge over the long Thanksgiving weekend. Volume two premieres on Christmas with the series finale dropping on New Year’s Eve both on Netflix and in select theaters.
“We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters — it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen,” the Duffers told Netflix fan-focused blog Tudum. “Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”
