For the 138th edition of Wimbledon, the BBC partnered with London’s A+C Studios to create a mixed media opening title sequence, highlighted by its use of papercraft stop-motion animation.
The animated open is the latest in a string of such BBC efforts, following hot on the heels of its work with Blinkink on a claymation animated spot for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 Football (Soccer) tournament.
The piece – which was created in a summer palette of green leaves and grass, purple flowers and red strawberries – was produced by A+C and directed by Jess Deacon for BBC Sport. Animators, set designers and model makers spent weeks recreating the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in miniature at a custom studio in the seaside town of Margate.

Besides the lively landscapes, the spot also features vintage Wimbledon footage, highlighting such former champions as Serena Williams, Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe, Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, Billie Jean King and more. The video is accompanied by audio clips from vintage Wimbledon matches. At points, the players show up as playing cards playing each other while onlookers sit on blankets on the lawn sipping champagne and eating Wimbledon’s traditional snack of strawberries and cream.
