Every culture in the world has a relationship with flour and water — the two key ingredients used to create bread. But how that product turns out depends on where you are and how it’s prepared – whether it’s light and airy baguettes in France, charred and bubbly pizza in Italy or a dense and hearty soda bread in Ireland.
In CNN’s new original travel, food and culture series, Tony Shalhoub: Breaking Bread, the star of such series as Monk and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes viewers on a journey around the world to learn about and celebrate each culture’s approach to bread.
For the marketing campaign, CNN sought to balance Shalhoub’s friendly personality with the show’s educational takeaway: while each culture’s relationship to bread is different, bread is something that connects all of us.
That’s why CNN opted for whimsical illustrations, upbeat music and diverse global characters to showcase the series’ joy, adventure and culture.

Tony Shalhoub: Breaking Bread premieres Sunday, October 5 on CNN.
