Even those younger than 50 know the familiar theme song: a driving bass line is intersected by urgent horns indicating that a giant great white shark is on its way to chew through the beaches near New England’s fictional Amity Island.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s breakout film, Jaws, AMC paired that theme music with “happy birthday” and created spots that feature some of the movie’s most iconic moments. (For example, chief Brody’s (Roy Scheider) oft-quoted line: “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.”)
AMC also took advantage of the opportunity to promote its new theatrical film, Dangerous Animals, which also features – you guessed it – sharks.
For what it’s worth, sharks aren’t even on the list of the ten most dangerous animals to humans, according to BBC Science Focus. Number-one on that list is the lowly mosquito, which delivers diseases like malaria when the females draw blood from humans, and number-two are humans themselves. Even lions kill more humans per year, at 200, then sharks, at 70.
