Imaginary Forces draws out the story of Apple TV+’s Government Cheese with a few stylistic engineering sketches on a cardboard box in the show’s clever main titles.
Set in the 1960s, Government Cheese begins with the release of Hampton Chambers (David Oyelowo) from Chino State Prison after serving a three-year stint for check fraud. When Chambers returns home to his wife (Simone Messick) and sons, he quickly learns that their lives have moved on without him.

Besides running minor criminal enterprises, Chambers also is a self-styled inventor. While in prison, he designed a self-sharpening drill that he has dubbed the “Bit Magician” with help from his son.
But nothing about Chambers’ return home is smooth, and soon the Chambers family finds themselves swept up into a whirlwind of unconventional events. Set to a track by Pharrell Williams, the title sequence distills the show’s energy into a compelling visual overture that features simple and clear motion graphics, a sans serif font and a three-color palette of mustard yellow, dark blue and light teal.
Government Cheese is executive produced for Apple TV+ by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr. Besides Oyelowo and Messick, it also stars Jahi Di’Allo Winston, Zane Moyer, Evan Ellison and Bokeem Woodbine. The show premiered on Apple TV+ on April 16 with new episodes dropping on Wednesdays.
