For people of a certain generation, Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical novels were seminal texts. The Little House books tell the story of the Ingalls family who migrated from the woods of Wisconsin to the plains of Kansas back to Wisconsin and the ice and snow of Minnesota before settling in for the long-term in South Dakota.
The books were turned into a hit TV show, titled Little House on the Prairie, that aired on NBC from September 1974 until March 1983. The series starred and was directed by Michael Landon, who played Charles Ingalls, also known as Pa.
Now Netflix is revisiting the story with a Little House series of its own. Luke Bracey plays Charles Ingalls, a hard-working man with a bit of wanderlust. After he falls madly in love with and marries Caroline (Crosby Fitzgerald) and they have two daughters, Laura (Alice Halsey) and Mary (Skywalker Hughes), he packs them up and moves them from Wisconsin to the Kansas territory in the 1870s.
On Monday, Netflix released the series’ first teaser (above) and new key art (below).

Rebecca Sonnenshine executive produces and showruns. Sonnenshine herself read the books as a child and says they inspired her to become the storyteller she is today.
“I fell deeply in love with these books when I was five years old,” Sonnenshine told Netflix’s fan site, Tudum. “They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience.”
Also executive producing are Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions and Dana Fox. The series, which already has been renewed for season two, is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content.
Little House on the Prairie premieres July 9 on Netflix.
